Eligibility and Election Expectations

  • First-year students must have taken the Hillel Leadership Class in order to be eligible
  • All other students are eligible after their first year
  • Candidates will each give a 2-3 minute speech, followed by up to 5 minutes of questions

General Roles and Duties

  • Be the face of Hillel in the greater campus and Jewish community
  • Work to ensure that Hillel students are functioning within our mission and vision
  • Make Shabbat and all other Hillel programming a priority in their life
  • Attend Maroon & Gold Shabbat and recruit peers to attend
  • Work with staff to create meaningful leadership development programming for current and future leaders
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the organization and push for continued growth through collaboration with other board members and staff
  • Connect with all parts of our community and be an engaging presence at programming, especially Shabbat
  • Take an active role in Hillel fundraising efforts
  • Plan and execute events in spaces lacking within Hillel
  • Attend weekly meeting with Hillel Board
  • Attend monthly meetings with Hillel Council
  • Other duties as assigned

Executive Board Position Descriptions

President

  • Lead the Hillel community through organizational growth and goal setting
  • Attend weekly one-on-one meeting with supervising staff
  • Lead weekly Hillel Executive Board meetings
  • Lead monthly Hillel Council meetings
  • Attend Board of Director meetings and deliver student updates
  • Execute weekly communications for Hillel Council with timely updates and events
  • Address any immediate student issues or conflicts that arise
  • Delegate tasks to ensure large scale events are successful
  • Engage at least 30 peers one-on-one throughout the school year
  • Outreach to non-Jewish student groups in order to build and cultivate cross-campus relationships
  • Sign up for all relevant UMN proceedings (activity fairs, Paint the Bridge, etc)
  • Work with staff to create meaningful leadership development programming for current and future leaders

Vice President

  • Assume the role of President in any instance that the President is unavailable
  • Serve as the liaison between Hillel Executive Board and Groups through maintaining communication and relationships with Groups
  • Facilitate collaboration amongst Groups
  • Make an active effort to attend Hillel Group events as often as possible
  • Collect and organize Group applications
  • Attend bi-weekly one-on-one meeting w/ supervising staff
  • Engage 30 peers one-on-one throughout school year

Treasurer

  • Apply for SSF funding each semester
  • Monitor SSF funding to ensure proper allocation and compliance
  • Ensure that all programs are financially sound
  • Bi-Weekly one-on-one meeting w/ supervising staff
  • Engage 30 peers one-on-one throughout school year
  • Manage initiative funding requests
  • Set realistic and meaningful goals using POP or SMART with initiative leaders
  • Manage budget for initiatives
  • Work with Staff to ensure initiatives align with Mission and Vision

Minnesota Student Association Representative (MSA Rep)

  • Attend MSA forum and committee and represent Hillel’s interests on campus
  • Update the Hillel Executive board about MSA happenings
  • Work within MSA to keep Hillel’s presence in a positive light
  • Engage 30 peers one-on-one throughout school year, including members of student government
  • Reach out to and engage all candidates for MSA President and Vice President; invite them to speak with Student Board or at a Hillel Program if appropriate

Engagement Chair

  • Engage at least 40 peers one-on-one throughout the school year
  • Track and analyze engagement data with Engagement Associate using Schwipe
  • Inform Hillel Executive Board and Engagement interns of possible engagement opportunities with students who are currently unengaged
  • Act as a strategic partner to Engagement Interns, helping create lists of possible engagement opportunities
  • Work with other Student Board members to continue Hillel’s growth as a student led organization
  • Attend weekly meeting with Engagement Associate
